Jim & Jane of Saturn Press

Hey friends - it has been a while since I did a write-up here on Alchemy & Co. I hope you all are doing well, and I also hope 2021 is treating you well so far!

This August, I decided to show up at a local trade show. While I was there, I couldn't help but to stop when I passed by a booth - the booth walls were covered with red fabric, with many layers of handmade cards. While observing a card, I met a couple, Jim and Jane, who were the owners of Saturn Press; we chatted for a good half an hour!

Both Jim and Jane are artists based in Swans Island - a gorgeous tiny island up in Maine. After some research, I realized that this heaven-like place is a good 10 hours drive from New York City + a ferry ride. :O They drove down to the city just for the trade show. Jane also told me that they have been in the business for 25 years, and they are looking into retirement soon. (Google Swans Island for an image of the island!)

Fast forward a month later, I decided to get some of their cards in for the holidays & some others :), which I will gladly show you all when the time comes! I hope you can support this small business of theirs.

Jane did all the artwork for Saturn Press; they were hand-drawn and then translated into print. Jim did the printing - he used an antique letterpress and traditional antique letter pressing method, the dyes were carefully inserted by hand; this is a true craft!
